StallPOPd V3 Web Interactive: Interactive software to calculate the combination of egg addling and bird culling needed to stall or halt population growth of subsidized ravens

Other Titles

Abstract

Common ravens have followed the expansion of human land use into the once pristine wildlife habitats of the US desert SW. Accordingly, wildlife managers seek to reduce subsidy of common ravens in order to reduce bird damage to habitat crucial for other wildlife species. This software uses density independent and density dependent populations matrix models to calculate the one-time reductions in birds necessary to reset densities to sustainable levels. As well, the software display combinations of managerial approaches that include reduction in fertility and the culling of live individuals that may be used to mitigate the growth of subsidized ravens.

The findings and conclusions in this article are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the views of the U.S. Geologic Survey nor the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
