The late Paul Hartman chronicled in his delightfully unique writing style the growth and development of one of the strongest departments at Cornell. "The Physics Department of Cornell has had a long and illustrious history which is nowhere written down in any complete way. It was suggested that the present writer, now on a part time "retirement" appointment in the Physics Department, with which he has been associated during a period going back forty-five years, put together a history of the department." This is an updating of the 1984 manuscript in 1993.
