TCI’s report on Food, Agriculture, and Nutrition in South Asia: Building Healthy, Sustainable Food Systems (FAN-SA) examines trends in nutrition, agriculture, and food consumption in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, offering a range of policy instruments for improving nutrition outcomes across the region. The report provides a snapshot of the global malnutrition picture and South Asia’s position within it; explores nutrition outcomes in the region and compares different countries; analyzes food consumption in South Asia; examines agricultural trends and their drivers, with a special focus on the relationship between farming and the environment; and proposes policy recommendations for each phase in the supply chain. The report is part of a series produced by TCI. Each FAN report provides periodic assessments of food, agriculture, and nutrition in India, its states, or the surrounding region.
