Abstract

In this interview, Professor Thurston discusses the impact of university international programs on its faculty and students, and on students from other countries. By describing his early experiences in Colombia, he reveals the kinds of challenges that faculty members encounter when they first engage in assignments abroad. Thurston emphasizes the importance of learning about traditional agriculture in developing countries and the value to students of traveling abroad to gain a perspective on farming in other countries.
