European corn borer contamination of processing snap beans has been a problem of increasing concern over the past several years. While this pest has a negligible effect on yield, extremely low tolerances for ECB contamination in raw product at the processing plant has required that significant acreage be bypassed in some years, wasting the time and money of all involved. Considerable research was conducted in NY on this problem between 1982 and 1985, and recommendations for control were developed and incorporated into Cornell's Vegetable Pest Management Recommendations. This project was begun to try to refine the tools available for ECB management in snap beans.
