The "hymNext Designer Hymen Series" is a collection of cultured flesh membranes, sculpted in a variety of designs for application on the human body. As a commentary on modern sexuality and the role of the female, the hymNext hymens explore cultural and physical assumptions about the sacred maidenhead and challenge the way societies have valued this thin membrane. The purpose of the installation is to present issues around biotechnology and the novel use of laboratory methods to create living art pieces, which are to be exhibited in an entertaining and educational environment.en_US
