Severe hypertrophic osteodystrophy in a Great Dane puppy

Other Titles

Abstract

A four month old, intact male Great Dane puppy was examined for progressive lameness, recumbency, fever, anorexia, lethargy, and respiratory distress. Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy was diagnosed based on radiographic findings and clinical signs. An interstitial pattern of unknown etiology was noted on thoracic radiographs, and low grade Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation was presumed based on prolonged coagulation times. Clinical signs, diagnostic testing, pathology, etiology and treatment of HOD are discussed, as well as acute management of systemic inflammatory conditions.
