Each Friday in May 2020, one of the Centers of Excellence in Vector-Borne Diseases provided a lunch and learn seminar covering tick and Lyme disease research. The Northeast Regional Center for Excellence in Vector-Borne Diseases presented information on where ticks live in the environment, what animals they feed on, Lyme disease risk in urban areas, and a review of the invasive Asian longhorned tick. Topics to be covered include: Considerations for starting a surveillance program; Field methods for medically important species; Pathogen testing; Data analysis and communication considerations; and Lessons learned from regional programs. Heath, Dr. Andrea Egizi, and Dr. Richard Falco together presented an informational webinar reviewing the biology, ecology, distribution, and control of the invasive Asian longhorned tick, Haemaphysalis longicornis, providing perspectives and experiences from New Zealand and the northeastern United States.
