I have been working on rendering aesthetic the intersection between the bio-(the body and organic material) and the informatic (cybernetic information and the Internet) through it's media-scape. I personalize innate subject matter by gathering and recycling popular public media with websites or devices that create portraits. I use a hypertextual, poetic, storytelling framework to represent not only the subject of focus but perform the meaning of fractures the subject undergoes in cybernetic, or more generally, contemporary representation. My work is interested in infusing a subjective struggle into the objects of our cultural organic through it's representation in contemporary media. I focus on topics that are disregarded or under-represented and defined as esoteric or marginal.
There is a language of imagery that speaks through advertising and journalism that develops what I call a public interface. This language's purpose is to build the public's understanding of biotechnology and reflect the social imaginary. Such public representations are perpetuating a profound misunderstanding of the practical realities in the labor and science involved in Biotechnology. My work takes on this mis-understanding to defy the distribution systems that perpetuate that lack of understanding.
