Abstract
The Judaic-Christian concepts of human responsibility to self and especially to society and their biblical roots are discussed at length. Professor Konvitz elucidates the similarities of Jewish and Catholic viewpoints on this subject, quoting extensively from the Hebrew Bible and New Testament, and explains how these concepts have evolved. He distinguishes the Protestant point of view on social responsibility from that of the Catholic Church. The evolution of these ideas within the dominant faiths is discussed, as is the evolution of Black solidarity as an aspect of social solidarity.
