INTER-COMMUNAL PEACEBUILDING IN RAKHINE STATE: BACKGROUND AND RESOCIALIZATION MECHANISMS
This thesis examines inter-communal relations in Rakhine State, with a specific focus on social cohesion initiatives between Rohingya and non-Rohingya communities. Through two years of research involving community interviews and direct observation of community forums, I demonstrate how local civil society organizations (CSOs) successfully implemented resocialization processes that helped alleviate inter-communal tensions stemming from negative socialization. Unlike previous research that predominantly focuses on mutual ethnic hatred or human rights violations against the Rohingya, this study acknowledges these serious issues while shifting attention to mechanisms of inter-communal peace restoration.
