Mule is about a young veteran who moves to California to help his childhood friend Ronnie sell pot. Working with them is Ronnie’s brother Bitz, also a combat veteran and a charming and dangerous force in the business. Mule (the title also serves as the character’s name) hopes to fall into old roles with Ronnie, though what he comes to find is Ronnie has also suffered and changed in the years Mule was away, and that their relationship might never be the same. Mule largely takes place in California and Afghanistan, exploring friendship, masculinity, sex, war, and the dangers of a life in uniform and outside the law.
