Esophageal stricture is a rare complication of anesthesia in dogs and cats. Gastric reflux during or immediately post-anesthesia is thought to be the inciting cause of inflammation and scar formation in the esophagus, resulting in clinical signs that reflect regurgitation and esophageal disease. The following is a case report of a dog with post-anesthetic esophageal stricture and a review of the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of this disease in small animal patients.
