Abstract

In this research, I examined the unique structures of Cornell Tech. Trends in higher education and among faculty were explored as they related to the creation of this unique center of higher education. This thesis includes both a qualitative and a quantitative study analyzing Cornell Tech. The qualitative nature of this study focuses on assessing the unique policies and procedures of Cornell Tech in light of concerns surrounding academic freedom and the University’s mission to aid the common good. The qualitative assessment’s goal was to explore the differing opinions of faculty at Cornell Tech compared to Cornell’s Ithaca campus. Ultimately, the thesis concludes by synthesizing the results into concrete recommendations for Cornell Tech that are then generalized to be applicable to all centers of higher education. Keywords: Cornell Tech, Higher Education, Academic Freedom
