Catalog of all known (at the time) bathtub-shaped coffins found in the Levant. Demonstrates that these coffins are based on Mesopotamian forms and discusses how they reflect increasing Mesopotamian influence in the area. Judahite practice was to be buried in extramural family tombs. In Mesopotamia people were buried in such coffins below the floors of their houses. The fragments found at Tell en-Nasbeh were found on the tell, suggesting either that Mesopotamians stationed at the site were being there, or that Judahites were mimicking Mesopotamian practices. Possibly the fragments from Tell en-Nasbeh should be affiliated with the Babylonian appointed administration located at Mizpah, ancient Tell en-Nasbeh after the fall of Jerusalem in 586 BCE.
