AFFECTIVE MATTER: A BCI INTERACTIVE ARCHITECTURAL INTERFACE
The built environment affects human health and well-being[52]. Architecture, unfortunately, does not respond to our bodies or minds. It is usually static, neglecting the human occupant, their emotions, behaviors, and needs. Such a disconnection could be potentially harmful to human health. Negative emotions experienced by humans might occasionally reduce their work engagement and productivity [1]. This project proposes a human-building interaction model that creates rich feedback between architecture and occupants, encouraging reactivity and expression. The system assesses human emotions and controls environmental interactions to promote wellness and enhance emotional well-being in the built environment. Ultimately, human-building interaction has a vast potential for application, in workplaces, schools, clinics, and public spaces. My research focuses on the interactive design and affective computing aspects of this new field, creating an interactive architectural space. I incorporate environmental psychology and biofeedback in order to create a design that best enhances emotional well-being.
