Abstract
T.R. Kidder, Edward S. and Tedi Macias Professor and Chair of Anthropology, Professor of Environmental Studies, Director of Geoarchaeology Laboratory, Washington University in St. Louis - The ancient Chinese were rivaling nature in transforming the environment resulting in an increasing divide between rural and urban areas. T.R. Kidder uses geo-mapping and case studies to help trace modern archaeological sites in Hunan which reveal these shifts in political economy.
