The Daily Information About Poop Enhances Research (DIAPER) Cohort Study, conducted in the Johnson Lab, aims to explore how the physical, biochemical, and microbial properties of stool can indicate infant gastrointestinal health. Given the highly individualized and extremely sensitive neonatal gut microbiome development, a detailed, precise, and comprehensive infant gut microbial profiling is crucial. However, traditional data collection methods suffer from limited frequency, which hinders the attainment of a sufficient volume of high-quality data and samples. In order to address these challenges, the DIAPER Cohort Study employs an innovative mobile-application-based infrastructure tool. This thesis endeavors to present the development of this tool, with a particular focus on mobile application and web dashboard, and demonstrate its advantage in human nutrition research in optimizing the experiences of participants and lab researchers alike, while concurrently maximizing the efficiency of the overall research process.
