This paper examines the relationship between quality of life and urban growth in Chinese cities in the past two decades, with an unexhausted list of 20 quality-of-life indicators. In this study, urban growth is measured by the percentage growth of the resident population in each city. For each period, the correlation between each quality-of-life indicator and urban population growth is examined first with bivariate regressions and then re-examined after controlling for other controls. Ordinary least squares estimates for the urban population growth and identified quality-of-life indicators are reported. Net of other measured factors, Chinese urban population growth has been found to robustly correlate with less pollution, abundant recreational amenities, and adequate road infrastructure provisions over the past two decades.
