Abstract

An eight year old male castrated Domestic Shorthair presented to the Cornell University Hospital for Animals Emergency Service due to a 24 hour history of increased vocalization and unusual behavior at home. At the time of presentation, the owner did not know when the cat last urinated. On presentation the cat had clinical signs consistent with a urethral obstruction. This report describes the treatment of a urethral obstruction in a male cat and discussion of Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC), a common cause of urethral obstruction in cats.
