Abstract

This paper describes a case of a 9 month old Great Dane who developed a hemoabdomen and associated complications secondary to an elective ovariohysterectomy and a prophylactic gastropexy procedure. Ovariohysterectomies are one of the most common surgical procedures performed in private practice. Routine procedures however are not without their share of complications. This paper delves into complications associated with standard ovariohysterectomy procedures as well as the decision processes involved in correcting them.
