Halfway between historiography and literature, the Malay work is extremely difficult to interpret. This article suggests that certain episodes are neither literary embellishments nor historical mistakes, but deliberate constructions of the past. More specifically, it tries to demonstrate that the reign of Sultan Ahmad (the sultan defeated by the Portuguese), noted in this work, is a fiction with a political purpose.
