IsoPOPd Web Interactive: Interactive software code to understand how elements in a population matrix model influence the asymptotic population growth rate
Population matrix models are used to transform wildlife field data into information on population viability. However, the mathematical process behind this transformation has long proven to be a black box to many practitioners. Using the characteristic equation of a 3-stage model matrix, we present new interactive software that shows how life history characteristics collapse into growth rates. The software contains dynamic graphics that display how life history traits combine and interact as positive and negative contributions to the growth rate. The app may be used to investigate 511 different 3-stage life history strategies.
The updates to the IsoPOPd software include changes to the wordings in some paragraph narratives and the the configurations of some of the tabs. The graphics, scientific results, and the mathematical equations (that generate the results) remain unchanged when compared to the original version.
