Many innovations, now commonplace in our lives, were met with opposition when first introduced. Such fear of technology has been especially pronounced in food-related innovations. However, once consumers recognized that these innovations enhanced the quality of life and that risks are either minimal or manageable, then these technologies enjoyed public acceptance. However, that is not true for all new technologies, where economic interests, ideological opposition and serious conflicts with societal values and beliefs slowed down or completely inhibited the introduction of beneficial new technologies.
