Case Description: A 3-year-old female toy poodle was evaluated for a 4-month history of halitosis, decreased appetite, and lethargy; as well as oral mucosa! ulceration seen by the referring veterinarian. Clinical Findings: Bilaterally enlarged mandibular lymph nodes were found on extraoral examination. On intraoral examination, buccal mucosa! ulceration was seen where the mucosa contacts the teeth. There was also significant periodontal disease. Treatment and Outcome: The patient underwent a periodontal treatment with extraction of 101,102,103,201,202,203,208, and 209. The patient was prescribed doxycycline, prednisolone, niacinamide, pentoxifyline, and tramadol. At a one week post-operative recheck appointment, the patient's oral ulcerations were much improved and the patient appeared to be in less pain. Three weeks postoperatively, the patient had healed oral ulcers and the owners confirmed that they were now able to brush the patient's teeth. Clinical Relevance: This case study details the presentation of a dog with contact stomatitis which is an under-reported disease process with little research. It outlines a diagnostic approach, other potential diseases that can lead to similar lesions, and a treatment plan.
