CELLNET: Bio-Inspired Adaptive Cellular Interface in Mixed Reality
CellNet demonstrates how a microscopic cellular system-inspired graphic user interface (GUI) could embody the plant cell's internal mechanisms and be manipulated by users' gestures and physical environments. In particular, based upon a plant cell's hormone-related cell growth regulatory system, CellNet simulates various cell growth regulatory system-driven cell interfaces in which a cell growth inhibiting agent affects cells' collective proliferation. The cell interfaces in the development processes are modeled to be responsive to users' diverse hand/body gestural movements and react with biomimetic motions in AR/MR environments. Also, as a methodological framework, CellNet establishes UX-driven gestural principles on how the user interacts with the cell interface by the various hand/body gestural patterns. Through these trajectories, CellNet ultimately aims to explore future opportunities on how this bio-inspired interface could serve as a biological testbed for biologists, and a pedagogical tool for children in terms of learning nature in an immersive and interactive way.
