Abstract

Covers everything you need to choose, build, use, and maintain a greenhouse for your home, garden, or institution. The types of greenhouses are discussed including freestanding greenhouses, additions to your home, window greenhouses, cold frames, growth chambers, and garden structures. The book will help you choose between building from a plan, buying a kit, or buying a used greenhouse. It covers construction planning, hiring a contractor, purchasing a used greenhouse, building permits, framing materials, glazing, heating and cooling, layouts, equipment, and utilities. Over 140 line drawings show greenhouse types, equipment, tools, construction details, and layouts. Plans, materials lists, and construction notes for nine greenhouses and a cold frame. Useful to gardeners, homeowners, educators, small farmers, retirement homes, schools, and other institutions.

Description
This 200 page publication (NRAES-137) was originally published by the Natural Resource, Agriculture, and Engineering Service (NRAES, previously known as the Northeast Regional Agricultural Engineering Service), a multi-university program in the Northeast US disbanded in 2011. Plant and Life Sciences Publishing (PALS) was subsequently formed to manage the NRAES catalog. Ceasing operations in 2018, PALS was a program of the Department of Horticulture in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University. PALS assisted university faculty in publishing, marketing and distributing books for small farmers, gardeners, land owners, workshops, college courses, and consumers.
