Abstract

A two year old female spayed German shepherd mixed dog presented for evaluation of progressive forelimb lameness. Her left forelimb exhibited carpal varus and carpal hyperextension. These abnormalities were likely due to increased weight bearing due to ectrodactyly in her right forelimb. Her right carpus was missing several bones of the distal row. She had metacarpals and digits I, II and V, but was missing carpal bones, metacarpals and digits III and IV. There was a cleft between her remaining digits and metacarpals, resulting in a "lobster claw" deformity. Treatment options for both forelimbs are discussed.
