Abstract

[Excerpt] Surveys show that 90+ percent of employers utilize contingent workers to some extent, often to a great and growing extent. Consequently, contingent workers currently constitute somewhere between 16 and 40 percent of the U.S. workforce (depending on how the term is defined). Naturally, academic interest in this topic has grown as well, so now is a good time to pause and reflect on where things stand.
