Abstract
An 11-year-old male castrated beagle was presented to the Cornell University Hospital for Animals’ Small Animal Internal Medicine Service after being unsuccessfully treated for a chronic productive cough for five months. A complete blood count, serum chemistry, urinalysis, zinc sulfate fecal centrifugation, SNAP 4Dx test, computed tomography, bronchoscopy, and tracheal wash were performed, ultimately reaching the diagnosis of Crenosoma vulpis infection. This paper will review the diagnosis, life cycle, and treatment strategies for Crenosoma vulpis infection and reflect on the importance of serial fecal centrifugal flotation exams when diagnosing this respiratory parasite.
