A three-year-old spayed female Yorkshire Terrier/Silky Ten-ier presented to the Cornell University Hospital for Animals' Community Practice Service for evaluation of chronic non­weight bearing lameness of her left hind limb. Orthopedic exam revealed she was completely non-weight bearing on her left hind limb with pain and decreased range of motion on hip extension and flexion. There was marked muscle atrophy of the left hind limb. There was no pain on palpation of long bones nor evidence of stifle instability. Radiographs of her hind limbs were performed which revealed bony changes consistent with Legg Calve Perthes Disease. The treatment of choice is femoral head and neck ostectomy to remove the affected bone and relieve the painful bone on bone contact. Passive range of motion and controlled activity post operatively helps fmm a pseudo joint in the coxofemoral region and allows for a very good prognosis post operatively.
