This report is intended to provide the reader with a summary of: a) the number, acreage and year that individual districts were formed by counties under the provisions of the Agricultural District Law

b) the number, acreage and year of district eight-year reviews carried out by counties under the provisions of the Agricultural District Law. New York counties continue to create new agricultural districts while at the same time the process of conducting eight-year reviews is also moving forward. Over the past eleven years a total of 456 districts were established comprising 6,740,716 acres in 49 counties. At the same time, 195 districts established over eight years ago have been reviewed. After taking into account deletions, additions and consolidation of lands at the time of review, the total number of districts dropped from 456 to 390. However, the acreage increased from 6,740,716 to 7,330,061. The result of the review process has been that the statewide average size of all districts has increased to 18,795 acres.
