Abstract

[Excerpt] This is the tenth semiannual report of the Department of Labor's Office of Inspector General - and my first as the Department's Inspector General. Since I served as the Deputy Inspector General from March 23, 1983, until my confirmation on August 4, 1983, many of the activities described in this report reflect my own sense of priorities and future direction for this Office. There are two priorities I want to highlight in this message: • our increasing emphasis on preventing fraud and mismanagement in Labor's programs, and • our efforts to ensure that the OIG is, itself, a model of efficiency and effectiveness.
