Abstract

Each farm enterprise is tabulated separately in this report. The enterprises are arranged according to size; for example, the farm with the largest number of cows is shown first on page 10, and the farm with the largest number of hens is first on page 13. Enterprises with 12 or more farms have been divided into three equal groups according to the size of the enterprises: Largest, medium sized and smallest. The averages for each of these groups, shown near the bottom of the following pages, are weighted by farms; that is, each farm is given equal weight in the calculation of the averages. For example, on page 10, the value per cow for the high third was $174, the average of the 10 figures representing the value per cow on the 10 farms in the group. The annual averages are weighted by animals or acres rather than by farms. The average value per cow for 1945 of $160 is the sum of the value of all cows, $233,585, divided by 1,462, the total number of cows.
