Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a serious complication in the equine critical care patient. This case report details the initial diagnostic work-up, treatment plan, and outcome of an 11-day-old foal with sepsis, clostridial enteritis, and early stages of DIC. In addition, it provides a brief outline of the pathophysiology of DIC, diagnosis and treatment approaches.
