Abstract

This paper attempts to illustrate Tanzania's enabling environment for the successful adoption of climate smart agriculture (CSA). CSA has emerged as a recent approach to reduce the impacts of climate change by strengthening farmers' resilience to climate change, improving agrarian livelihoods, and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions when possible. Using a series of literature reviews, this paper breaks down Tanzania's enabling environment for the successful adoption of CSA into four overarching categories: National Policy Frameworks, Local Institutions, Local Innovations, and Coordinated Efforts. This paper provides an overview of these categories as they pertain to Tanzania, arguing that each plays a critical role in the successful implementation of CSA.
