Abstract

With the urbanization process, continuous development of economy and the improvement of people's requirements for living standards, the transformation of urban villages has become an inevitable issue in China. As a major social issue, the transformation of urban villages involves the government, developers, residents and other parties, and has become an obstacle to urban development due to its construction quality, population clutter and poor environment. In Guangzhou, a large number of urban villages have been formed since China's reform and opening up. How to reasonably carry out urban village transformation especially for public space, and use micro-renovation to enhance the quality of public space without affecting the nearby urban area, are the characteristics explored. This paper attempts to analyze three urban villages in Guangzhou that have similar districts and situations based on the description of the current situation of urban village formation and transformation. The first two urban villages have been successfully transformed or have clear plans, and the third urban village that has not yet been successfully transformed is analyzed and suggested.
