Abstract

Milk has been a basic component of the human diet since early history. In recent years there has been an increase in demand for sheep and goat dairy products. Due to small ruminant dairies being in the early stages of development, there is not a lot of research on how to improve milk quality and products to fulfill the domestic demand. Through surveying and sampling of small ruminant dairies in the Northeast, a relationship can be established, illuminating the effects of feeding forages and by-products on milk quality. Once this relationship is established, a dataset will be created and published on the Ruminant Dairying website. By creating this website, it will create a knowledge bridge between research and farmers. This data will provide an easily accessible way to gain and share knowledge to improve nutritional management strategies to produce high quality products.
