The Day in the Life of Oswego River-Finger Lakes Watershed inclusion of Indigenous and Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) enhances successful experiential environmental education programming from other watersheds (Hudson River Watershed, Lake Ontario watershed) in support of New York’s Great Lakes Action Agenda, and cross cutting priorities for integrating traditional ecological knowledge and promoting collaboration with Indigenous Nations. Through a Two-Eyed seeing approach, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Rochester Institute of Technology, and NYS Water Resources Institute at Cornell University engaged with partners from the Onondaga Nation, Indigenous and TEK holders, teachers and education partners to facilitate the codesign of resources, activities, and events that engage youth in ways of knowing and stewarding lands and waters, honoring and respecting Indigenous and TEK as equally valid as scientific knowledge.
