Abstract

2-phenethyl propionate (PeP) is as an insect attractant that is applied in traps where the substance does not come into direct contact with food or humans. It is usually formulated with other attractants. Although it is approved for use as a food additive, PeP is not exempt from the requirement of a tolerance. Because no food tolerance is established, it cannot be applied directly to food crops.
