Abstract
Turn mowed areas into low-maintenance forested areas! This book is written for owners of 1–10 acres that are forested, un-mowed, or mowed areas that you would like to turn into forest. The book includes twenty activities that will help you assess your family’s goals and the property’s trees, water sources, wildlife, recreation potential, legal constraints, and more. This knowledge will be used to develop a list of projects and a schedule. Twenty-one projects are described including creating an opening, planting trees, pruning, streamside stabilization, and trail design. The activity worksheets are completed for three example families and properties. A workbook with blank activity sheets is included for your property. It also contains 90 color photos and a resource list. The book was written for the Mid- Atlantic, Northeast, and Great Lakes states but has been used in other parts of the country and in Canada. This is an updated version of NRAES–184, published in 2006. DUE TO OUSTANDING COPYRIGHT ISSUES OR CLEARLY IDENTIFIED OUT-OF-DATE PRACTICES (E.G. SAFETY CONCERNS), ONLY THE FRONT MATTER (E.G. COVER, ToC, ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS, ETC) ARE PROVIDED HERE AT THIS TIME. Print copies of this item can be found at libraries listed here: www.worldcat.org/oclc/958852922
