Of all the crops grown in New York, apple ranks number one when it comes to the pest complex affecting the crop. It is plagued by a large number of pests including insects, mites, disease organisms, rodents, nematodes, birds, deer, and weeds. Numerous crop protection measures must be utilized in order to produce commercially acceptable fruit and maintain healthy productive trees.en_US
