The autobiography combines serious accounts of research with the joys of living, both avidly pursued by Samuel L. Leonard. The autobiography is neatly sectionalized into short chronological periods starting with his birth in 1905 and then following his career after graduating from Rutgers University Phi Beta Kappa. He was among the first to discover the contraceptive effects of estrogen, and reported that two distinct gonadotropins were produced by the anterior pituitary. The account concludes with the death in 1990 of his loving, devoted wife, mother and companion, Olive.
