She was also Director of the Institute in Radiation Biology. Professor Casarett was the first woman Dean of The Graduate School serving as Associate Dean (1973) and Dean (1979). As Vice Provost (1978-1984), she was "one of the pioneering leaders of the University." "She was a productive researcher, with many journal articles and textbooks on radiation biology to her credit, and a teaching schedule that included courses on the biological effects of radiation, radiological physics, and applied radiation biology for veterinary students."
