Treatment of Spontaneous Pneumothorax in a 6 year old Siberian Husky

Other Titles

Abstract

A spontaneous pneumothorax is characterized by the accumulation of free gas or air within the thoracic cavity, which is either primary with an unknown etiology or secondary to an underlying pulmonary disease1. Treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax can either be medical or surgical; however, recurrence and mortality rates are significantly higher without surgery2. Primary spontaneous pneumothorax can be refractory to surgical treatment by lung lobectomy, at which point alternative measures, such as autologous blood pleurodesis, are considered3.
