Abstract
This project aims to understand how participation in an experimental learning program shapes the trajectories of secondary school graduates, with a focus on their academic, professional and personal achievements. The program, PICHNET (Project to Invest in Human Capital) was launched in Yaoundé Cameroon in 2018 to supplement student's training in a variety of areas often neglected the formal school system. Every summer, the program offers a range of short academic and professional workshops, where students can learn new skills such as computing, entrepreneurship, and first aid; but where they can also develop their artistic expression, build social capital within their communities, and construct detailed personal development plans. These activities are intended to enable youth to further their training in areas that they deem most useful for their broad life goals. The initial programming was guided by empirical research and youth input, and how the program has reached a point where we can begin to evaluate the experience among participants.
