Sepsis is an important contributor to farm losses and can be difficult and expensive to treat. There are management techniques that can significantly decrease the frequency of sepsis on a farm. This case report explores two cases on a farm milking 2,900 cows with a total of 10 calf deaths in 1 month. Necropsy of the two cases revealed systemic inflammation and fibrin deposition. The most important consideration for sepsis in calves is prevention through vaccination of dams, appropriate management of colostrum, naval dipping at birth, adequate calf nutrition, and good farm cleanliness and biosecurity between groups.
