Abstract
A nine-year-old spayed female Pekingese was presented on emergency to the Cornell University Ophthalmology Department in August 2014 for evaluation of bilateral deep corneal ulcers. She was diagnosed with bilateral descemetoceles and emergent bilateral conjunctival pedicle graft surgery was recommended due to concern for impending corneal perforation. Under general anesthesia, conjunctiva! pedicle graft surgery was performed in each eye. Aerobic and anaerobic corneal cultures were obtained at the time of surgery which confirmed bacterial growth. The patient recovered well from anesthesia and was discharged to her owner the day after surgery. This paper will discuss the pathophysiology of corneal ulcers in dogs, as well as the pre-operative diagnostics, treatment, and post-operative care involved in patients that undergo conjunctival pedicle graft surgery.
