During the preweaning and weaning periods there is heightened susceptibility to disease and gastrointestinal disfunction, specifically in the small intestine. Diarrhea in young calves reduces dry matter intake, body weight gain, and feed efficiency. Understanding feeding practices that promote improved health and productivity of dairy replacement animals is critical for future success in the herd.en_US
