Abstract

Memorial Statement for Professor James Law, M.R.C.V.S. (1838-1921) who was Professor (1868-1896) of Veterinary Medicine and Science, Professor (1896-1908) of the Principles and Practice of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Science, and Veterinary Therapeutics, and Emeritus Professor (1908-1921) of the Principles and Practice of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. He was also founder and Director (1894-1908) of the New York State Veterinary College and Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. During his pioneering career spanning 50 years at Cornell, he was influential in promoting veterinary education to the rank of human medicine, conducting research and epidemiological investigations, and advancing the practice and treatment of animal diseases. He authored numerous articles, reports, and books, including, "Farmer's Veterinary Advisor " (1876) and the 4-volume set, "Text Book of Veterinary Medicine" (1896). The memorial statements contained herein were prepared by the Office of the Dean of the University Faculty of Cornell University to honor its faculty for their service to the university.
